Keeping it Weird on Wednesday

So I am toying with the idea of going back to school.  I’ll spare you my whining, but perhaps I’m having a midlife crises at the age of 35.  So I’m checking out degree programs, and I see geography.  Hhhmm, geography…… The website tells me that “…almost any career would benefit from a better understanding of Geography.”  (Hhmm…. maybe that department just needs my money!)  But, could geography be my new calling?  Sadly no, I am much embarrassed to report that I could not name the 7 continents.  I counted New Zealand as its own continent — which maybe makes Steph happy — and I left out Africa.  I also thought there were 7 oceans to go along with the 7 continents.  Sigh.  Oh well, maybe Ken Jennings can set me straight — an impulse buy since my membership expires today!

  1. Going back to school is a great idea. I did at a “later” age and I loved it. Surprisingly, I knew more than the other students simply because of the number of years I’d lived. (Plus, I took it a LOT more seriously,) It was a lot of fun, and I highly recommend it.

  2. I’d love to go back to school. Sadly, the debt from my Masters degree is too large. And I still don’t know if I’m supposed to capitalize “masters,” or if I’m supposed to throw an apostrophe in there so I’m not sure how smart it made me. It did get me my job, though, so there’s that.

Geography would be fun to study! A girl I went to high school with majored in topography. I always thought that would be interesting.

  3. We do like to count ourselves s special here in our isolation but alas we are part of…..oceania? The pacific continent? Oh poop maybe school wouldn’t hurt for me too. I’m thinking of going back but I have no idea what to chose if I do. It’s way more fun as an adult, the feeling of learning new stuff is exciting!

  4. [...] remember my, OMG I’m 35 years old and am having a midlife crises post?!  Well in an effort to stay sane and explore all options, I have applied to graduate school! [...]

  5. If it is comforting, I know a lot of geography folks who can’t name cities/continents.
