I am getting better at the grocery store — especially in the produce section. I am not handling so many specimens of produce before putting the “perfect” one in my cart. In fact, just last Saturday, the first head of lettuce I picked up went straight into the cart. (Although I think I got lucky there and perhaps the lettuce had just been freshly re-stocked). However, overall, in the produce section, I am finally coming to the realization (that I’m sure most normal people already know) that the produce I buy is not going to look “perfect.” It has a long way to travel from farm to grocery store to my table, and some bumps and bruises are going to happen along the way. Of course, I still do examine a few before picking a nice whatever-one to put in my cart, but I’m no longer spending way too much time looking for the “perfect” potato or whatever other item of produce. It is a radical change from what I used to do, and I admit, it was very hard at first, but I’m getting more used to it now, this new change is starting to become part of my grocery shopping routine, and this change actually makes me feel more relaxed. And I think hubby appreciates my effort since we aren’t spending as much time in the grocery store as we used to be!
