Meet Mary Jo!!

Hubby & I took a little road trip and lookie at what came home with us!

A nice heavy box!

Meet Mary Jo!  My new sewing machine!  Oh I love her already!  She sews smooth like butter!  DC2010

YAY!  The cozy I made for Peggy also fits Mary Jo!

LOTS of basic stitches and some fancy ones too!

An engraved needle plate!  This I will appreciate since my Brother did not have one.

I adore my little cubby for my accessories (a few aren’t shown in the picture).  This one has slots for extra feet and a small compartment that holds 3 bobbins.  I special ordered a walking foot since the authorized dealer did not have one in stock.  I’m sure my Brother walking foot might work, but I would prefer to get the walking foot designed  specifically for my machine.

Oh happy sewing times are here and ahead!  I’m finally going to be able to start on my MIL’s capri pants.  And I’m sure I will  think of more things to make!  And even when I was sans sewing machine, I still bought a few new Simplicity sewing patterns at the last $1 pattern sale.  Hurrah!

  1. Mary Jo is looking gooood! Congratulations on her arrival. ;) To answer your question on Flickr about thread. I often use Gutermann (or Guetermann) which is all purpose Poly thread (I think). When I started sewing I sometimes used really cheap thread and I always thought that it made the stitches look uneven. But it might have just been my clumsy stitching too. ;)

  2. Yay! Bet I know what you’ll be doing this weekend. ;) All those stitches look fun, whether you ever use them or not. Is #27 hearts?? Didn’t know there was such a thing! My little cubby on my (not nearly as new or fancy) machine looks exactly like this. Thank goodness for it, or I’m sure I would have lost feet/tools by now. Have fun!

  3. CoNgRaTuLaTiOnS !!!!! Im so happy for you !!!!
    (doing the happy dance )
She is a beauty :-) and her name is just perfect for her !!!!
Oh, sooo many possibilities, have FUN creating !!!!

  4. She looks fancy!! I’m sure you will have a blast getting to know her and I am super jealous of the space to put the spare feet. Thats a very nice touch!

  5. Oh, very exciting! I like my little storage compartment on mine, too (in the same place as yours), although I’ve noticed it’s gotten a little loose over the years and sort of accidentally pops open while I’m sewing sometimes. :-/ Enjoy your new friend!

  6. Very cool :) . I hope you have a blast trying her out! What a nice bonus that your sewing machine cover fits her.

  7. Hip Hip Hooray! Man, those stitches look amazing! You’re going to have some applique fun soon! I also would really appreciate the engraved needle plate Sooooo convenient. Have fun!

  8. Thank y’all for the congrat wishes! Mary Jo rocks so far! I’m working on my MIL’s capris — finally!

@nicole, I would bet it was the cheap thread that made your stitches look wonky. I’ve only used C&C poly covered poly with Peggy, I guess because I really wasn’t educated about thread, but I do know that Guterman is a better quality poly thread than C&C. Perhaps at the next thread sale at JoAnn’s I will buy a few spools and see how it goes….

@barncat1, yup #27 is hearts, too bad I don’t have a little one as I’m sure those hearts would look darling stitched on the edge of a bib or baby pocket or something!

@m1b, yes I didn’t know how much I missed Peggy until I got Mary Jo! I am SO excited about all the things I will be able to make again!

@lovestitches, yes the feet cubby space is pretty neat. On my old Brother, I just had a big ol cubby space, it is nice that Mary Jo’s cubby is a bit more organized.

@juneatnoon, well I had my Brother for 1.5 years and the cubby never popped open while sewing. I *hope* (and I think she will since Janome has a very good reputation) that Mary Jo lasts much longer than that! As long as she keeps sewing well, I won’t mind if her cubby pops open!

@stitchymom, yes I’m very happy that my old cozy fits Mary Jo. It wouldn’t have been a bad thing if I needed to make one ;) but admittedly, I’m glad I don’t need to, I can just jump in and start sewing and know that I have a cozy to protect her from dust bunnies ;)

@modern ma’am, yes hurrah! On my brother I had a small piece of paper taped down with appropriate seam markings and then used a magnetic seam guide too. With Mary Jo, I’m just using a small piece of blue painter’s taped next to the seam allowance I’m using. It is definitely a nice feature. I don’t know what kind of sewing machine you have, but perhaps your sewing machine has an engraved needle plate as an accessory you could order?

  9. [...] I’m proud to say that I take really good care of my sewing machine who I’ve named Mary Jo.  I do the best that I can to take care of my sewing machine so all my sewing experiences will be [...]
