Speaking of stocking up on Thanksgiving Day supplies early, I have this ingrained need to also stock up on TP (toilet paper). I am very much aware that there is thankfully no shortage of TP in the USA – thank goodness because we don’t need any flashbacks to Russian days of yore — but I definitely picked up this odd habit from my mom.
Growing up, my mom always had lots of packs of TP on hand. And I don’t mean lots of 4-roll packs, I mean the big huge packs of TP. My folks used to have a membership to a now defunct warehouse grocery store and my mom would buy these HUGE packs of TP that had SO MANY rolls of TP inside. As far as I know, she had access to plenty of TP growing up so I have no idea why she felt she needed to buy so much
But like mother, like daughter, and now I keep lots of TP in our house. We don’t have a warehouse grocery membership, so the big packs at the grocery store will have to do. Or sometimes I buy lots of little 4-roll packs if they are on sale. I get a little nervous, like right now, because we only have one 4-roll pack in the house. I need more TP. And as a side note, I am loyal to my TP brand. Even if another brand is on sale, I will not buy it.

I am the same way. I have tried other “just as good” brands but they’re not. Yeah for TP.
I don’t think this is weird at all! Living in the country, TP is one thing I’m always stocked up on, you just never know when you might not be able to get back to town, it’s all of ten miles.
@april, yes YAY for TP! Glad I’m not the only one loyal to a TP brand.
@lisa, yes and since you live northern-ish I’m sure TP is always good to have in case it snows and you can’t get the store. in GA where I am, TP and bread and hot cocoa are the first things to get out of stock if there is even a hint on the weather channel of possible snow
I buy a new 12-pack when we finish a 12-pack, so we can conceivably have two 12-packs on-hand at any given time
. I’m loyal to 7th Generation brand!!
Three years ago I got really, REALLY bad food poisoning and was scarily dehydrated (mostly from nonstop-for-hours diarrhea) — passed out and ended up in the ER — boy was I ever glad to get that IV that put some fluids back into my poor body!! ANYHOO, after having such intense diarrhea, I now have this fear (perhaps that’s too strong a word) that kiddo or I will have severe diarrhea when hubby is out of town and we will run out of TP and not have a way to easily or quickly get more (kiddo is far too young to drive, and no way would I leave him at home alone, especially sick). So, yeah, now when we break open the last 12-pack of TP, TP immediately goes on the grocery list!!
Oh, that first sentence in my comment above is confusing. I buy a new 12-pack when we bust open the last remaining 12-pack
. When 7th Gen has their TP on sale, I usually buy 2 12-packs, so sometimes our hall closet is busting at the seams with TP lol.
so sorry to hear about your food poisoning from long ago and that you ended up at the ER. sounds scary!!! but due to your experience, i can totally understand why it would be super important to have lots TP on hand just in case hubby is out of town and one of y’all unfortunately get very ill again.
i’m also glad to know i’m not the only one who collects TP
This cracked me up. My FIL stockpiled TP. The first time I visited my husband’s house (back when we were newly dating and all of 18 years old) we went into his basement and I was so surprised by the hundreds of rolls of TP. It was hilarious.
I tend to stockpile things now, though. I try to never run out of anything. I always have extra tp and kleenex boxes and lightbulbs, as well as a regular stock of jello, chicken broth, 7 UP, and saltines in case me or one of the kids gets sick while hubby is traveling.
and yup, i have to admit too, we keep chicken stock, 7up, and saltines on hand too in case of a 24 or 48 hour cold/flu bug.
and wow for those 100s of rolls of TP. wonder how long it took the family to go through those?!?!
Ugh, pardon my dreadful grammar in my previous post. “Me or one of the kids…” Yike! That should be “one of the kids or I….” Blame my children. They were arguing in the other room while I was writing, so I was yelling at them while composing!
we don’t check grammar here, heck i’m not even capitalizing or using proper punctuation as i type this
