Tra la la, Georgette the mouse is off to a picnic

Well I may make wonky pot holders (but it works!  check out the update!) but I will proudly say that thank goodness I can embroider well!  This darling vintage pattern, Alice Brooks #7067, was generously shared by flickr member Bunsakura.  I know y’all gave me suggestions for the mouse’s fur when I asked, and I ended up choosing DMC 3782 (light mocha brown).  Now that my stitchy project is done, I really must draft my skirt pattern this weekend so I can shortly thereafter make a muslin mock-up to ensure proper fitting and such.

More  close-up shots of  Georgette will be shared on flickr.

  1. Cute. She reminds me a little bit of Dorothy (Wizard of Oz) with the blue/white dress, red shoes, and basket, skipping along. All she needs is Toto in the basket. ;)

  2. she’s cute! i like all of the colors you used. and she reminds me of dorothy too. :)

  3. thanks, and i can defintely see the dorothy resemblence now that it’s been pointed out ;)

  4. Very cute!!

  5. So cute! You certainly can embroidered!!!

  6. how adorable! I just started my first bit of needlework last night. Such fun. I loved being able to see yours up close. Do you plan out the colors before you begin, or choose as you go along?
Must go and go through the rest of your blog now!

  7. aw thanks y’all for the compliments and clicking my blog link from feelingstitchy.com!

@christine, oh i look foward to seeing your first needlework project being shared on flickr. embroidery is tons of fun and a relatively cheap hobby/passion to have :)

And I actually plan out the majority of the colors before I begin. I will even admit that for most of my projects I have a record of the floss colors I used! I have a tiny notebook where I write down the project name and list the colors I used for various parts of the pattern. Or, as in the case of Georgette, I jotted down the colors on the print out of the pattern. Why do I do this record keeping? (and goodness what does all this say about my personality?!!?!?) I have no idea! I’ve certainly never consulted my project list of previous color choices ;)

Sometimes if I’m uncertain about a particular area of the pattern as to what color to use, I’ll save it for last. Like for this project, I stitched Georgette’s fur last, because even with advice from fellow bloggers, I was unsure what color to choose… but in the end I think I picked a good one!

  8. She is so darling! I love her sweet little face! It is so neat to hear about your method with choosing colors- I have a lot to learn!

  9. @jean, thanks for comment. i hopped over to your blog and recognized your gorgeous project photos from flickr!

and you don’t have anything to learn ;) people choose their floss colors in all sorts of ways. i’m sure there are people who choose as they go along and that is just fine too!
