A big thanks to flickr member Bunsakura for sharing this cute mouse from a vintage Alice Brooks pattern. I love picking out the colors of floss I plan to use before I begin, but I’m having some trouble deciding on the mouse’s fur. I’m leaning toward 3782, light mocha brown, because it’s a light color and neutral-ish so hopefully any color I decide to use for her dress and bonnet will match. But 3864, light mocha beige, just seems to have a cinnamon-y warmth to it
Oh I’m so indecisive! What do y’all think?

And speaking of WIPS, I think my hubby decided to make me a homemade birthday gift……a sewing table/desk!!!! My hubby just surprised me with this camera phone picture sent from his phone to my e-mail. As you can see, the table isn’t done yet, but that’s okay because my birthday is still a few weeks away
I’m so excited to have my own workspace! I won’t have to haul my machine (and even though it’s a Brother, I swear there can’t be any plastic parts in there because the machine is heavy!) to and from the kitchen table anymore. We have a 3 bedroom house, and one of the bedrooms we use as a “library” and now my crafty embroidery sewing stuff is in there too. I don’t “work” at the card table I have set out in that room, but that’s where I keep my sewing machine when it’s not in use, and put other stuff on the table like my embroidery and sewing WIPs and such. It will be so nice to put the card table back in the closet, and eventually have this nice sturdy desk out all the time.

Yes… that Alice Brooks pattern is so cute ! The tones you chose for her are very nice, I specially like the 3864 on the left as a 1st choice followed closely by 841 in the middle …. and as you said any of these colors will match with any other colors you will use for her clothes, etc. .
Oh Wow !!!! bWb…. what a super nice surprise from your hubby…
It is perfect !!! How sweet of him !!! Awwww…. I can just imagine how much love and care he has and is putting into it !!! … And working on in for who knows since when quietly until finally this big reveal by sending you a picture to your email…
awwwww !!! Look !!! , it has where to put your sewing goodies/projects/wips/supplies/materials/tools and any other thing that will occur to you !!! Wonderful indeed !!!
The table/desk looks wonderful! Aren’t handy husbands handy to have around? Seriously, it looks great, a nice work surface and STORAGE for all your notions. Can’t wait to see it all finished
That mouse pattern is adorable, I think I like your first choice, 3782. Just curious, how did you decide which mouse to do? Sometimes I look at all the patterns I have, and all the ones on hooplove, and get overwelmed trying to decide what to do next.
Yes, the sewing desk/table is a very thoughtful and loving gift
And it will be very much loved and appreciated by me
It will be so nice to having something stable and permanent in that spot for me to use.
And I’ve decided to go with 3864, but will take out my stitches if it doens’t look right and go with 3782. I think I’m actually going to stitch up the mouse’s fur after I do her dress and bonnet, that way it will be easier to tell if the fur thread goes well with her outfit
@Lisa, I don’t know how I chose which mouse pattern to do. I liked the “saturday” one too, but when I saw the one that I am stitching up (“thursday”), I just fell in love with it right away and saved it to my computer. At the time I didn’t have a WIP and over the course of a couple of days I kept thinking about that pattern and how utterly cute it was and then I knew I had to stitch it up!
this is the linkie for the saturday one:

It is funny though that I have so many patterns (sublime stitching and aunt martha) and lots of stuff from the very generous people at hoop love, and I find it ironic that at times I feel like I can’t find anything to stitch up. I guess sometimes I’m lucky (like with the mouse) and I saw it, fell in love with the pattern and began the process of transferring the pattern to a tea towel a few days after seeing it online.
I like the color in the middle but I tend to gravitate toward the deeper browns. You are going to recruit me to embroidery, I can tell.
What a great sewing table and a thoughtful present! There’s no fun in temporary sewing space, so this will be a huge benefit for you.
Cute pattern!
Oh, wow, what a super awesome birthday present from your hubbers!! You’re going to so enjoy having a permanent sewing desk
. Can’t wait to see it completed. When is your bday? My kiddo’s and best friend’s are both on the 21st.
@A, oh you should totally give embroidery a try. There is the most awesome group on flickr, hoop love, where super generous people post really cool vintage patterns that are no longer copyrighted — that’s where miss mouse came from!
Plus when I’m doing a sewing project, it’s nice to take a break and do embroidery, embroidery is a bit more relaxing and laid back when compared to sewing
@G, yes I love this pattern!
And yes I can’t wait to have a permanent sewing desk. It will be sooooo nice. I think I might just need to buy a little lamp for my new table and maybe stitch the lamp shade with the ‘craftopia’ patterns from sublime stitching….. we’ll see! And my bday is two weeks from today! Very cool that you son and his BF have the same bday!
